Victoria Belniak has been named vice president for Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance and chief compliance and privacy officer for Kaleida Health.
Belniak has spent the past three years with the organization as associate general counsel for Corporate Risk Management. She is credited for developing and directing a strong and comprehensive risk management program, including risk identification/transfer/financing, event management and positive resolution of medical-legal issues.
In her new role, she will continue to develop and strengthen Kaleida Health’s compliance program, including advising Kaleida Health’s management and executive team on structuring and maintaining compliant business relationships, transactions and functions.
Belniak will also act as staff to the General Counsel (Alyson Spaulding), CEO (Jody Lomeo) and Audit and Corporate Compliance Committee of the Board, helping each to implement all necessary actions to ensure that a robust and effective compliance program exists across Kaleida Health and its affiliates. She and her new team will also work closely with other Kaleida Health departments to assess compliance risks, make recommendations and provide guidance to reinforce system-wide integrity of protected health information, operational quality, documentation, coding and billing.
Since joining Kaleida Health in August of 2015, she has managed litigation and is currently responsible for stewardship of the self-insurance Trust. Belniak also oversees emergency management, the commercial insurance portfolio, and regulatory interactions. Her community service includes serving on Kaleida Health’s reuse committee for the former Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
Prior to joining Kaleida Health, Belniak served as senior healthcare claims specialist at Zurich North America Insurance Company in New York. She has experience handling medical malpractice and general liability claims on behalf of physicians and facilities. In addition, she has experience in commercial insurance, insurance policy interpretation and complicated claim negotiation. Belniak also served as an associate attorney, medical malpractice group at Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, LLP in New York.
Belniak received her bachelor’s degree at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and her Juris Doctor at the University at Buffalo Law School. She is a native of Western New York and lives in Buffalo with her husband, David Schwartz, and their three children.
