Another Successful DNV GL Survey

DNV GL Healthcare Inc., conducted our periodic survey August 21-23, and the visit was another success.Medical Leadership

During the survey, 11 DNV GL surveyors spread out across over four million square feet of Kaleida Health real estate, visiting hospitals, clinics and off-site locations to evaluate compliance with federal, state and ISO standards.

Once again, Kaleida Health closed out all of the non-conformities from last year’s accreditation visit; “A difficult feat” noted by the lead surveyor. In addition, there were just a handful of new areas of improvement for 2018, another positive achievement:

  • Monitoring of temperature, humidity, having proper air exchanges and back up battery lighting required in all areas where procedures using sedation and anesthesia services are done
  • Pre-assessment for sedation incomplete (missing Mallampati score prior to sedation)
  • Procedural consents not fully complete
  • Documentation of OR skin prep dry time
  • Procedural area medication security and nursing coverage
  • Restraint orders, renewals, PRN orders and chemical restraints used without appropriate restraint orders, and required assessments not done timely
  • Pain medication orders and clarification of those when multiple medications are ordered

Among the comments we received from the various surveyors:

  • “Top decile implementation of ISO 9001”
  • “Level of investment in the Quality Management System is impressive”
  • “Thank your staff – very engaged in the process”

Thank you to our entire medical staff for your continued commitment to improving quality and safety!
