With respiratory virus season upon us, the Infection Prevention team had a discussion with our epidemiologist, Dr. John Sellick. It was determined that Droplet/Contact Precautions are in use for general viral illness at many of the leading institutions in the United States. To protect our patients and staff, Kaleida Health will be doing the same.
All patients with a pending respiratory screen will be placed into Contact/Droplet Precautions until the screen comes back completely negative. Any positive result (inclusive of RSV, Human Metapneumovirus, etc.) will necessitate remaining in Contact/Droplet Precautions (with infection prevention nurses able to remove the isolation if no longer necessary).
